Will THE DEAD WE KNEW run on your PC? Official minimum and recommended specs, the 60 GB install, launch performance reality and Linux compatibility.

Last updated

This section answers one question: will THE DEAD WE KNEW run on your machine? The game launched with official system requirements on its Steam page, a substantial 60 GB install, and — typical for a brand-new Early Access release — very little independent performance data yet. Here is what is confirmed, what it means, and what is still unknown.

Guides in this section

  • System requirements — the official minimum and recommended specs, cross-checked between sources, with plain-language guidance for each hardware tier.
  • Linux / Steam Deck — the honest status: listed on the Linux calendar, unverified in practice, no ProtonDB reports at launch.

What kind of game is this to run?

Open-world survival games stress three things: CPU (the world simulation and AI), storage (the 60 GB install is large for an indie title) and memory (12 GB minimum is above the old 8 GB convention — treat it as a real floor, not a suggestion). The recommended GPU tier, a GTX 1070-class card, tells you the developers are targeting solid performance at 1080p on mid-range hardware from the last several years.

The launch-window reality

New Early Access games have three performance truths:

  1. Day-one performance is the worst it will ever be. Patches optimize; that is the deal you make with Early Access.
  2. Independent benchmarks do not exist yet. Until aggregate data accumulates, claims of specific FPS numbers are anecdotes — we will not print them as facts.
  3. Your refund window is your benchmark. Steam's two-hour window is the sanctioned way to test the game on your exact hardware.
